Cuccia Festival
In the evening of December 12 is held the festival of Cuccia with tasting the food. This is a dish that has Arabic based wheat boiled with seasoned oil. This tradition is linked, as it tells Mirabella, for a long famine and the miraculous appearance of a cargo of wheat which was cooked and eaten immediately without waiting to be milled to make bread. Another tradition connected to the party are the flashes. The faithful gather straw and wood forming pyres in the middle of streets that are lit at sunset. This custom stems from pagan cults of December 13 (the day on which it was holy) because this day is the shortest of the year and we wanted this rite away the darkness and hoped the return of light.
